Many people require our service following an event such as a fall or illness. This can create a crisis situation resulting in immediate action required. If this is the case and you believe your father can afford to fund his own care*, please contact us direct either by phone (01304 824904) or email (alandaleresidentialhome@ntlworld.com) and we will very quickly arrange to assess your father to enable him to be welcomed into the Home as soon as possible. Feel free to request our brochure pack and/or come and visit the Home at your earliest convenience.
Should your enquiry just be a general one, gathering information for the future, we suggest the following action:
1. Visit some local care establishments to compare the services available and their cost. Not all home’s are the same and we strongly recommend visiting Alandale and possible taking advantage of our free 2 night, 3 day mini break.
2. If you are unsure as to whether your father has the means to purchase the care that would meet his needs, please feel free to call the Home and ask for Paul, the Registered Provider of Alandale, who is always happy to provide advice. Alternatively, you may wish to contact KCC Adult Social Services, who’s contact information is at the bottom of this page.
3. If your father is currently in hospital, we suggest speaking to the ward manager to obtain advice concerning your father’s care needs on discharge and the care support options available to him either through the NHS or social care (KCC Social Services). Again, please feel free to contact the Home and ask to speak to Paul or Clare, Registered Manager of Alandale, for further advice. *If unsure if our service is affordable, once again, please phone the Home and speak to Paul.
Alandale provides 24 hour, comprehensive personal care for a competitive, set, transparent price. Night or day, if your mother requires any aspect of personal care, for example, being assisted or requiring a full bed change in the middle of the night, we will provide it. Our competitive private fee is fully inclusive of all care and accommodation costs, with no hidden extras.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the national authority with the responsibility to inspect and grade care services. The CQC have graded Alandale and the service we provide as ‘Good’. We strongly recommend anyone considering using our service to read our most recent inspection report in full. (there is a link to the CQC website at the bottom of this page).
1. Attendance Allowance is a non means tested payment from the government for any older person with care costs. There is a set of qualifying criteria and a form available online to apply. We strongly recommend you consult with Clare, at the Home, regarding the completion of this.
2. Should an individual interested in our service live in the Dover area, there may be limited funding available through the R. V. Coleman Trust (accessible through your GP) for a maximum of 2 weeks care per year.
3. In theory funding for residential care is available through KCC social services for those with less than £24,000 in savings/assets. However this is extremely limited and KCC have set the qualifying criteria so high, very few people are able to access it. It is also very likely the family will need to ‘top up’ the fee paid by KCC as the amount they are prepared to pay is very low when compared with the cost of providing care.
4. Continuing Health Care. This funding is available through the NHS but is usually only available for those receiving palliative care. Please speak to Paul or Clare should you wish to discuss this.
5. Many people use assets such as their property to fund care. It can sometimes take time to access such funds and we at Alandale are always ready to be flexible to help with this process.
Loneliness and isolation are 2 common reasons why individuals come into the community of a care home. We offer a comprehensive programme of activities and entertainment to enhance the quality of life at Alandale, encourage social interaction and help integrate new clients into our Home. For example, every Tuesday Sarah and Sophie, 2 qualified occupational therapists, run a group conversation session. They choose a topical theme and together with music, food etc. encourage our ladies and gentlemen to converse on that topic. The staff at Alandale are trained and encouraged to be aware of the importance of enabling a new client of the Home to settle and establish relationships, both with staff and other residents of the Home.
We often receive enquiries from people with an elderly relative who is either still in their own home, possibly with a care package, or in hospital. Very often Social Services are already working with the elderly person and/or their representatives.
The Social Services representative is usually called a Case/Care Manager. Care Managers work in the community, supporting people at home and are also based in hospitals where they assess and support patients. Where a Care Manager is involved, it is important that they are contacted and included in any decision making process regarding the type of care most appropriate for the individual concerned.
They can provide important information, especially for those people who may require short/long term funding from the local authority (Kent County Council). If your relative is currently in hospital and you wish to speak to a Care Manager, telephone the hospital direct and ask for the Care Management Department. To speak to a community Care Manager telephone KCC Social Services on 03000 416161 and ask for Adult Services for the Dover area or which ever area the elderly person lives in. Alternatively, click on the link below to visit the KCC Adult Social Services website.
Effective 1st October 2010 the CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care in England, has taken over responsibility for monitoring the standard of care provided by any organisation, whether NHS, local authority, private or other. For further information and to read the most recent inspection report on Alandale, or any other care organisation, please click the link below to visit the CQC website.
An elderly person may have to fund either all or part of the care they receive. It is important to obtain impartial advice either from Social Services or other relevant organisations. Elderly people, either living independently or in a care home, maybe entitled to Attendance Allowance. This is a non means tested payment from the Government, through the Department for Work and Pensions. If the application is successful, this allowance could provide a significant contribution towards care costs where the individual is self funding. For further information and a claim pack, contact the Attendance Allowance helpline on 0800 731 0122. There are a number of organisations who can provide information and advice regarding investing assets and funding care. St. James’s Place Wealth Management provide such a service and clicking the link below will take you to their website
CROP is a charity primarily set up as an advocacy service for the elderly. They also provide advice and assistance in other areas including; Filling in claim forms, financial matters, complaints and abuse. Clicking on the link below will take you to their website.
